What size tables do I need?

Table Size Guide for Hospitality – We’re often asked for advice on table sizing in hospitality settings, so here’s our expert guidance.

Each diner should have a minimum width allowance of 600mm.

This provides ample space for drinks and quick eats, ensuring a comfortable dining experience. As the level of service and dining experience increases, this space typically becomes more generous to accommodate more elaborate table settings and a more sophisticated dining atmosphere.

Mask out your proposed table size and mock up your table setting with your actual plates, cutlery, glassware and any other condiments or table settings. Is there enough room? Consider your style of service, tapas or shared plates might require additional table space.

Industry standards dictate a common depth of 800mm for restaurants and dining, allowing enough room for dining and table dressings. In cafes or quick eats environments, a shallower depth of 700mm is typical, maximising space efficiency while still offering a comfortable dining experience.

When planning your layout, consider the type of dining experience you want to offer. Smaller tables with a depth of 700mm are ideal for quick service and high turnover, while larger tables with a depth of 800mm or more enhance the ambiance for a more relaxed dining experience.
