An airport food court that is designed to elevate the travel experience and challenge conventional social spaces.
The new Christchurch Airport foodcourt, designed by Hierarchy Group, seamlessly weaves elements of nature while supporting wayfinding and shaping movement and interaction. Featuring built-in planters and custom-made Solace banquettes that sculpt the spatial layout, the variety of seating arrangements create dimension within the space to help travelers navigate their journey and directing through the many inviting eatery options.
The foodcourt features an wide range of seating areas, from comforting Plane Chairs, ideal for relaxing with a coffee before your flight, through to high density more traditional foodcourt seating areas with pedestal tables and loose Babar chairs. This space challenges traditional airport designs through its contemporary use of colour and thoughtful details, enhancing the overall user experience.
The banquettes and planters were manufactured offsite by Harrows, then installed in the evenings, minimising disruption to the airport’s operations, and meaning there was no downtime for the client.
